The Journey began the night I took that fateful first flight to Dubai on 8th June 2007!
Over an eventful decade later and I can still remember the nervous excitement as if it was yesterday.
Though the final destination of the flight is a travel destination in itself, it was to be merely a stopover before I would embark on the Maersk Pearl, my first assignment on a ship and commence my true journey, one who’s paths I still traverse, the journey that would entitle me to join a well known yet lesser understood fraternity called MARINERS.
A fourth generation sailor by ancestry, one would think that my pedigree had prepared me for what lied ahead. But like the phrase goes- It’s an ocean out there!
A vast and endless ocean where sailors have expended millions of tireless hours and over hundreds of years upon its waves, yet every sunrise still looks fascinatingly different!
This Diary is an account of those moments during my sea career that have particularly stood out- And there have been many!
It’s an inside look at a lifestyle that landlubbers (as I mischievously call them) can only imagine, where with all its wonders and opportunities, come its hardships and sacrifices.
Though the journey be long and arduous, there are those special ones that make it all worth it- My Wife, Daughter, Father, Mother and Brother- My pillars.
